Collection Cosmetics needs to do better.

I was shopping in Asda with my little cousin, and we decided to have a look at their make-up section as she's 14 years old and is starting to explore how to do her makeup. Asda has a variety of makeup brands that they sell and promote so we had a few selections to look at. But when we arrived at ‘Collection Cosmetics’ section, we saw that they had no makeup range for black/brown people.

Yes, I'm aware that we had other brands to choose from that included the correct shades, but the point is that in 2022, there is no reason for a big brand to lack diversity.

Collection Cosmetics is a makeup brand that has been established since 1987 and has over 160k followers on Instagram. The brand “prides” themselves in producing quality cosmetics at an affordable price.

The cosmetics organisation sells their products in Boots, Superdrug and Asda all around the UK.

Despite being a multi- award-winning brand, some of the stores selling their products like Superdrug in Bullring Birmingham and Asda in Rochdale have a lack of diversity within the shades of their products like foundation, concealer, powders and bronzers.

Tracy* is an Asda employee who said this when asked why there weren't any exclusive shades for darker skinned people:

“We don’t have any say in the types of products we receive from the brand, we get the delivery from their supplier, so we don’t know what we have until we put them out on the floor.

“So, regarding the lack of shades, it has nothing to do with Asda and George.”

I thought since Rochdale is a small town, that may be the reason why they didn’t have many shades, so I went to 2 Superdrug stores in Birmingham city Centre and found the same thing.

The brand has been contacted regarding this issue, but they have yet to give a reply.
